Texas Toyota Dealer Presents Award Winning Prius

Friday, February 19th, 2010

The Toyota Prius hybrid has been named the Car of the Year 2010 by WhatGreenCar.com, recipient of the 2009 Green Innovation Award, and remains a strong contender for the 2010 Green Car Vision Award, gaining recognition for making hybrid history.

Sweeping up awards faster than the competition can keep track, the Prius is not only a car but a leader in the future of the auto industry. Texas consumers should take notice of the hybrid that everyone can’t stop talking about.

“If Apple made a car, it would be the 2010 Prius,” said Dr. Ben Lane, Managing Editor of WhatGreenCar.com.

WhatGreenCar.com Car Of The Year

WhatGreenCar.com gave the Prius a green rating of 30 which is given to each vehicle based on an assessment of the environmental impacts associated with a car’s use and manufacture. The WhatGreenCar.com analysis takes a look at both the fuel cycle and the vehicle cycle, creating a rating system that is inspired by organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency.

First the emissions inventory is analyzed, including an assessment of greenhouse gases carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane. Next, an emissions impact assessment is conducted to better compare vehicles with varying levels of emissions. This assessment is achieved with a rating tool first developed by the European Cleaner Drive Programme to assess the impacts associated with the fuel cycle.

Once both assessments are complete, the vehicle is given a rating between 0-100 and the lower the score the less the environmental impact. How a vehicle will affect the environment not only today but in the future has become an important issue for Texas Toyota drivers.

With a rating of 30, the Prius far surpasses the required rating needed for consideration for the award, which is 45. The Prius hybrid was honored not only for the high rating but for integrating green features as part of the vehicle’s design.

“[The Prius] encourages a smooth stress-free driving style, improves fuel economy and drives down emissions,” said Lane.

Drive Car Of The Year

Drive introduced a new Car of the Year award to honor a car that stands out above the rest when it comes to technology that reduces the vehicle’s impact on the environment. The Drive Car of the Year Award (DCOTY) for Green Innovation in 2009 was given to the Prius hybrid for its constant focus on low fuel consumption.

Granbury drivers will be impressed to know that the Prius was praised by the judges as a benchmark for fuel-efficient vehicles, improving consumption by 10 percent while improving driveability with a bigger engine.

Green Car Journal Vision Award Finalist

The Green Car Journal announced the Prius hybrid as a finalist for the 2010 Green Card Vision Award. The award will be presented in January at The Washington Auto Show, “Change Happens Here.”

The Prius hybrid is being recognized for combining the usual functionality of a Prius with the ability to drive up to 12 miles on electric power only, an important feature for Texas Toyota consumers who are on a tight budget.

A Winner For Every Granbury, TX Driver

The Toyota Prius continues to gain well deserved recognition in the industry for its green designs that will serve as a model for all manufacturers in the future, but the most important reviews come from the consumers.
