Driver Safety Concerns Texas Toyota Dealer

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Jerry Durant Toyota has some exciting news for Texas Toyota shoppers. Learning how to drive safely is an important lesson for first time drivers. Toyota is offering an advanced teen driving skills program for Texas Toyota owners.

The leading cause of death for teens between 15 and 20 is motor vehicle accidents and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have accounted for 35% of teen fatalities.  In an effort to make the road a safer place for all drivers Toyota is offering free advance teen driving skills program at participating Bass Pro Shops throughout the country.

The program is called “Toyota Driving Expectations” and since its start in 2004 has been able to reach over 14,000 drivers with educating them on safe driving techniques also incorporating ways to stay focused on the road.  The program is extremely hands on and gives teens a chance to practice real life situations on a closed course.  The website describes the main purposes for the course:

  • Learn defensive driving skills and accident avoidance techniques
  • Identify the dangerous driving situations that they encounter daily
  • Understand vehicle dynamics and safety features
  • Experience firsthand the dangers of distracted driving and understand the relationship between distraction and reaction time

These skills are all vital for not only teens but anyone who gets behind the wheel.  A parent or guardian is expected to attend the class with their teen to engage in open dialogue about expectations and rules of driving.  Michael Rouse, Toyota’s vice president of philanthropy and community affairs summarizes Toyotas goal by having the program, “Toyota is dedicated to supporting both teens and parents in developing safe, responsible driving habits and protecting them on the road.”

The teens and parents attend separate seminars discussing various driving topics and then after getting some hands on experience with some hazardous road situations the teens rejoin their parent to have open discussion.

Stan Lippelman, spokesperson for Bass Pro Shops is enthusiastic about teaming up with Toyota, “Toyota has been a partner of ours for 6 years.  …  Similarly to Toyota, Bass Pro Shops is dedicated to teen safety –whether teens are behind the wheel of a vehicle or participating in recreational activities such as hunting or fishing, Bass Pro Shops believes education is the key to safety.”

Here are the dates of the programs for the month of October:

  • Foxborough, Mass., October 2 – 3
  • Clarksville, Ind., October 9 – 10
  • Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., October 16 – 17

Jerry Durant Toyota serving Fort Worth Toyota shoppers is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Toyota Prius with an expanded selection of 2010 models.  Special 0% financing offers are available as well as $1,000 in customer cash for consumers who take delivery from the dealer’s stock between 9/8/2010 and 10/4/2010.

texas toyota priusThe 2010 Toyota Prius has been so popular with Fort Worth Toyota shoppers for many reasons. The Prius is the world’s first standard-production hybrid-electric vehicle. Not only is its fuel economy favorable with the inflation of gasoline prices, but also it is still a comfortable, spacious, reliable vehicle, making it a great family car.

The 2010 Toyota Prius is available in four trims, the Prius II, III, IV and V. All of them average about 51 city/48 highway mpg. All trims also have an 18-liter, four-cylinder engine, which has actually improved highway mileage compared to earlier models. By making more torque, the engine can run at a lower average rpm on the highway.

2010 Toyota Prius Eco Driving Modes

There are three driving modes for the Prius. EV-Drive Mode allows driving on battery power alone at low speeds for about a mile, conditions permitting. Power Mode increases sensitivity to throttle input for a sportier feel, and Eco mode helps the driver achieve the best possible mileage.

The Toyota Prius also has many other energy-saving features. These include LED low beams and tail lights, an air circulator (powered by solar panels) to prevent the interior air temperature from rising while the vehicle is parked, reducing the need for air conditioning in the first place.  In fact, the 2010 Prius has made an industry first by making the air conditioning system capable of running with the engine off for added interior comfort.

Other improvements the 2010 Prius has are reduced road noise, improved acceleration (zero to 60mph in 9.8 seconds), disc brakes on all four wheels, and a larger interior space. Other features and options include a backup monitor to aid with the view of rear obstacles when the vehicle is in reverse, a voice-activated navigation system, and Safety Connect, Toyota’s first safety and security device. Standard on all trims are color-keyed foldable outside mirrors, heated outside mirrors, rear window electric defogger with timer, UV reduction glass windshield, aerodynamic rear deck spoiler, and roof-mounted XM satellite radio antenna.

Fort Worth Toyota shoppers looking to purchase the 2010 Toyota Prius as a family car can also rest assured that it is a safe vehicle. The 2010 Toyota Prius has traction control, a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS), enhanced vehicle stability control, side-impact door beams, front and rear energy-absorbing crumple zones, driver and front passenger advanced airbags with an occupant classification sensor, along with many more safety features.

Jerry Durant Toyota in Granbury invites Texas Toyota shoppers to view their expanded selection of the ever-popular 2010 Toyota Prius models.
